Cosmin Frunteș

Cosmin Frunteș has been in dialogue with the NOIMA artists since the early years of the group, through Galleria 28 in Timișoara. He joined the group in 2014. For many years, he explored the boundary between painting and installation, as a sort of extreme collage. The ready-made sample (metal sheet, textile objects, soil, ash, plant debris), photographic image, and paint paste constitute, for C.F., the language of a desperate, instinctual realism. It’s a manifesto for the memory of a place facing an imminent dissolution. Saturated color is a very rare presence. Monochrome, grays, and earth tones (literally and figuratively) dominate. In recent years, there’s been a refinement. The compositions become more minimalist. More rational, Frunteș reduces the surface’s load but retains the logic of previous material explorations.
