Simion Cernica

Simion Cernica (born in Bucharest) has been living and working in Los Angeles since 2011.

Simion began his career focusing on mediums such as photography, painting, video art, moving images, art installation, and performance. Over the years, he has come to work with a wide variety of mediums, most chosen for the opportunity to express his conceptual position and formal exploration. Currently, in addition to all these directions, he has also returned to a studio practice based mainly on painting. Language and subversion are preferred practices, alongside philosophical inquiry, aesthetics, and critical resistance, developed by exploring current socio-political and cultural energies. Questioning accepted, mainstream cultural perspectives, he aims to critically challenge how we perceive reality, cultural history, and how we promote our precarious humanity. His art maintains an “Arte Povera” direction, providing speculative updates and avant-garde possibilities in current contexts.
