Flori de mucegai 5 – Lucian Hrisav

Description

Lucian Hrisav composes the series of mold flowers as a continuation of the exploration previously initiated through individual works titled “Death Flowers.” The visual processing of this “Baudelairean” motif (inserted into interwar Romanian literary culture through Tudor Arghezi’s poetry collection “Flori de mucigai”) produces a contemporary return to the famous “aesthetics of the ugly” detailed poetically in “Les Fleurs du Mal.” Furthermore, there is also a formal (material) questioning of aesthetic value, as mold, a harmful manifestation of decomposition, becomes a decorative element placed on a pristine wall, this time with intenition and privilege. Through such a reference, which played a decisive role in the history of modern art, Lucian projects his current technique that undermines the standards by which we understand beauty in a decadent world with increasingly uncertain and superficial aesthetic references.
